The Delhi Police is the chief law and order bureau for the National Capital Territory of Delhi (NCT). It does not have authority or jurisdiction over the neighbouring regions of the National Capital Region. It was founded in the year 1803 under the assistant of British Resident to the Mughal Imperial Courts and remained the part of the Punjab Police till independence. It was re-organised in the year 1966 and four divisions were created.

The main objective of Delhi Police is to maintain the law honestly and strongly in order to stop crime, to pursue and bring justice, to maintain peace in the region, to protect, help and support the citizen and to perform all the duties with full honesty, common sense and sincere judgement.
